Stillwater Backpacking Trip

Course Description

Join us for this epic, off-the grid 5-day trek through the Beartooth Mountains! This trail is rated "intermediate" and while Backpacking experience is not required, it is recommended to be fit and active and to physically prepare for thsi trip. Stats: 35 miles, 5240' elevation gain, 6500 ' elevation loss Day 0: 4 pm Mandatory Gear Check in Red Lodge ​Day 1: West Fork Stillwater THD (at 6600ft) to Breakneck Meadows. 8 miles with 1000 ft of elevation gain. We will hike along the West fork of the Stillwater river a drainage of the Beartooth mountains. Camp will be at Breakneck Meadows. ​Day 2: Breakneck Meadows to Diaphanous Lake. 7 miles with 3000 ft of elevation gain. We will hike to our highest point at 9600 ft and the environment will change from a more high forestry one to a more alpine one. ​Day 3: Diaphanous Lake to Lake Jordan. 5 miles with 1000 ft of elevation gain and 1400 ft of elevation loss. Passing Jordan Mountain and Wounded Man Lake on our way, this day allows for some rest after the first two bigger days. ​Day 4: Lake Jordan to Storm Creek. 7 miles and 2500 ft of elevation loss. We descend back into the impressive valley along the Stillwater river. The environment will become more forestry again. Day 5: Storm Creek to Stillwater THD. Our last day is about 5 miles long and allows for the shuttling of cars and a meal in Red Lodge, Nye or Roscoe! Our trips focus on the simplicity of nature, with your backpack and trip mates. Join one of our experienced female guides for a magical wilderness experience. An 80-minute personal shuttle drive is required. In the past participants have shared car rides with each other and guides. Local shuttle services are available. This trip includes a guide, breakfasts, dinners and cooking equipment.
